TYPES OF RESPIRATION
Respiration is a process by which the food gets oxidised to produce energy . There are different organs involved in this process in different organisms such as lungs , skin ,gills ,trachea, etc . Hence there are different types of respiration in living organisms depending on the organs involved . Branchial respiration : The respiration in which gills are used as organs of respiration is called branchial respiration. Ex. Fishes , they have special structures called gills for exchange of gases . Tracheal respiration: The respiration in which trachea are used as organs of respiration is called tracheal respiration.Ex. Insects ,they have small holes on either side of their bodies called spiracles . These spiracles opens up in tubes called trachea where exchange of gases takes place. Cutaneous respiration: If the respiration takes place through the skin then it is called cutaneous respiration. Ex . Frogs and other amphibians undertake two organs for their respiration .
